MY MASTER CLEANSE STORY
“It is fear and ignorance that dominates America today. Like sheep, people are herded into clinics or hospitals, blindly believing in those well-established institutions without ever questioning what they are putting themselves at risk to do, or how well a recommended drug might work.” ~Tom Woloshyn. After reading Tom’s book, The Complete Master Cleanse, I have realized I am the person most interested in achieving optimal health for myself. I discovered by educating myself on wellness, I can reduce my medical costs, prolong my life, but most importantly, improve all aspects of my personal health! With all the toxins my body has been tortured with, I knew a cleanse would be incredibly beneficial. The Master Cleanse is designed to cleanse and detoxify the body while nourishing it with the things it needs to function. It involves drinking only the following for 10-40 days: fresh squeezed organic lemon juice, organic grade B dark amber maple syrup, cayenne pepper and purified water.
After doing a 17 day Master cleanse I’ve never felt so energetic, light, happy, free, clear headed, and empowered! All my frustrations with my body completely went away including acne, bloated stomach, chub, and drowsiness. I lost 15 pounds and even had several people tell me my eyes and skin look brighter! Not only that, but I was able to work out hard every day, and summit Mt. Shuksan, WA on day 14!
During my Cleanse I kept a diary. Here are a few entries:
I’m starting the Master Cleanse tomorrow! I’m so excited about doing this for my body and to see the results, it deserves it and needs it badly! Flushing the toxins from my body will be so worth the effort and will help me lose weight and feel sexy! My goal is to do it for 10 days or longer if I can. I plan to everyday get exercise, go in the sauna, keep a journal, and focus on gratitude and love! I really want to focus on being positive and filling myself with information on loving my body and my life. I want to work on appreciating a life of simplicity. I also plan to focus on good hygiene, reading my affirmations, drinking lots of water, reading books on nutrition and keeping my stuff clean and organized. During my cleanse I have decided my mom will be my main supporter. If things get tough or I want to quite ill call her first!
Some of favorite Affirmations:
- I love and appreciate myself
- All things are working together for good in my life
- I choose what I want and go after it
- I live in the present
- I accomplish my goals
Day 1: Weight- 140 pounds. Today went incredibly well! I felt good all day and if I got hungry I just drank one of my drinks and felt awesome with plenty of energy! I weeded the garden with my mom, ran for 30 minutes, stretched and worked out my abs, did some yoga then went in the steam room for 20 minutes. I’m so proud of myself I think this is going to be hard but so worth it. I have no doubt I can do it!
Day 3: Weight- 135.6 After peeing this morning I weigh 135.6!! I know it’s mostly water weight but I feel great! My stomach feels way flatter and I’m not bloated at all. My mom says I look stunning, my eyes are bright and my skin looks clearer. All in freaking two days! This is unreal. After dancing at the VFW last night my friends and I went to Moca Salsa. I was worried I would be super tempted to eat some but I didn’t! It smelled soooo good but I didn’t crave it at all. After work today I ran super hard went in the steam room and then my mom and I went hot tubing. It’s Kalen’s birthday so we all went out to the bars. She told me I was glowing and she was inspired to do the cleanse.
Day 6: Weight-133.6 My weight loss has slowed down a bit but I’m feeling way better every day! I still have plenty of energy. I went skiing today and has a blast. I was skiing really well and even practicing some new stuff. I also had a great work out. I ran super hard then worked out my arms and abs pretty hard. I felt like I still could have kept running. I went to a party and had fun but it was tough not drinking with everyone. I got offered lots of shots and everyone was trashed by the end of the night. At least I was able to be a safe DD for myself and some girlfriends. Crazy side note about all this…I was reading a book on nutrition and it explained how when you are detoxifying the body it can give you an urge to keep things clean and organized. I was so shocked my mouth dropped. Ever since I started the cleanse I had been keeping my room super clean at all times and had vacuumed my car and organized all my belongings. If you know me my room always has clothes and ski stuff everywhere and is a complete mess!
Day 10: Weight-130 Welp, my tongue still has a pretty thick coating of white which means I’m still detoxing so I guess I’ll keep going. Today was kind of tough, I felt tired but I worked out anyway. Kalen and I went to a reggae show and danced the whole time, till 2am. While we were there I started to lose energy and I didn’t have any of my ingredients so I went to the bar and sucked on lemons. It was a blast but I was so tired I almost fell asleep on the way home.
Day 14: Weight-126 Today was one of the biggest days of my life! We woke up at base camp at 4:30am to start our assent of Mt. Shuksan. I was very anxious all morning as we packed up and headed out. I hadn’t slept at all because I was freezing all night and nervous about the climb. I hadn’t eaten in 14 days and I knew the whole crew including my dad, brothers and friends were doubtful and worried about my ability to function, let alone make it to the top. My dad offered me a cliff bar before we left just in case I “gave in” but I told him thank you but that’s NOT going to happen. The climb went surprisingly well! I ended up leading the group almost the whole way to the pass! Everyone was so impressed with my pace they could barely keep up! Once we got to the pass we left our skis and pulled out our ice axes. The final push was straight up and very intimidating. Luckily we had epic, blue bird conditions and everyone in the group made it to the top! I was so proud of myself when I summated. I knew I could do it! The down climb was the scariest part. We had to move very slowly and make sure with every step our ice axe had a strong hold since none of us were roped up. From the pass we all got our tele’s on and skied to base camp. The ski down was awesome, it wasn’t too sticky and we flew past several other groups hooting and hollering. I was so tired by the time I got to base camp I wanted to just ski past our tents but we had to pack up all our stuff into our bags and keep skiing down. Once we ran out of snow we had to continue hiking out to the cars about 2 miles. All of us were so exhausted when we finally got to the car we dropped our bags and laid there for like 10 minutes moaning. We all went to this Mexican place for dinner and everyone was still shocked I wasn’t eating. I just laughed and sipped on some hot water. I was so happy it was all over and I had done it!
Day 17: Weight 125- I’m in Hawaii now and proudly wearing a bikini! In total I have lost 15 pounds! Throughout this cleanse I’ve gotten so many compliments on how great I look. I feel like I’m at a much more suitable weight for my body and I feel stronger and leaner then I have in such a long time. My hair, nails and skin are glowing and I don’t have any acne! All the chub I had has completely disappeared! I feel like I’m ready to come off the cleanse and continue to take care of my body. I’m so happy I did this!
Doing the Master Cleanse was one of the most empowering things I’ve ever done. It has inspired me to be the best person I can be and to love and appreciate myself and what I have. It has also shown light on the reasons I eat when I do. Was I eating for nourishment or pleasure? It has also encouraged me to improve my health in many ways. I now have new goals to
- continue weight training, running, and doing yoga
- practice relaxation and meditation
- start a gratitude journal
- not use a microwave oven
- use a shower filter to remove chlorine
- live simply
- choose to surround myself with people who love and support me
- cleanse my body when it needs it
Gratitude Journal: (some things I decided I was grateful to have in my life)
- An amazingly supportive and loving mom
- Friendly co-workers
- The sun
- Encouraging and powerful books
- Good music
- Adventures and challenges in life
- A healthy fit body
- awesome friends
- clean room
- skiing with friends
I highly recommend this cleanse to everyone! I can’t emphasize enough how powerful and enlightening it was for me. If you do decide you want to try it out for yourself I absolutely suggest you first read the book “The Complete Master Cleanse” by Tom Woloshyn it’s a quick, easy, and believe it or not FUN to read book. The more interested you are in your health the more fascinated you will be in this book! The importance of you reading this book before you try the cleanse is HUGE! The reason being there are many specific instructions to this cleanse that if you don’t do it correctly it can become pointless and you are very unlikely to be able to complete it successfully. Trust me on this, the cleanse isn’t easy but it’s very possible; if you do it wrong you could hurt your body therefore completely defeating the goal to love your body!
One more thing! If you do decide to do this and you have ANY QUESTIONS at all please let me know. I’m more than happy to help however I can, including being mental support.
CHEERS TO LIFE EVERYONE!!!!!

Wow this is a great resource.. I’m enjoying it.. good article
Wooohoo! Great job Vanessa!
I start the cleanse on Monday and am going in with the same attitude, I’m determined to do at least 10 days. Ultimately after reading the book and Tom saying it’s taken him over 100 days of cleansing to feel as good off the cleanse as on. I’m committed to a life style change. I’m very excited as well as nervous and appreciate you taking the time to share your story! It’s very encouraging
.
Wow your story is very inspirational! I did that cleanse 3 yrs ago after reading Tom’s book at work (I work at Shirlyns Natural Foods) and I only made it to day 7. I really want to do it all the way through now. Thanks for the encouragement! Oh and by the way I think we are neighbors, (I live in Big Cottonwood) we should go touring some time:)
congrats vanessa. can you smoke medicinal marijuana while doing the cleanse?
Vanessa,
terrific article. Thank you for including your experiences day by day. You set some accurate expectations of the cleanse for me. I am starting it this week and moral support as well as the information is essential. Thanks Vanessa!
