THINGS TO DO: Ice, Arnica, Water, Oxycodone, and Laugh
First of all, thank you for sending all the love, support and positive healing vibes. It means so much to me! The doctors have been sending me many mixed reviews and answers for my back. The diagnosis for now is a 20% wedge compression fracture in T 11, and major straining in the muscles and tendons in my lower back. It’s pretty painful right now but by taking care of my self correctly I’ll be back at it in no time!
So all in all, it could be much worse. As far as recovery time goes, it could be a few weeks up to 6 months depending on how messed up the muscles are. For the next couple days I’ll be bed ridden and taking pain relievers, muscle relaxers, tons of water, light stretching, mucho ice and heat. I also have a roommate who is a massage therapist who has been massaging along my spine using INJURY LINIMENT including herbal extracts of arnica, St. johnswort, calendula and valerian and made with jojoba, and infused essential oils of rosemary, pine, eucalyptus and wintergreen. Not only does it smell good but it helps heal damaged muscles and ligaments. I have 45 days till the next stop on the Freeskiing World Tour in Revelstoke and I’m going to make it happen!!!!!!!!

I have so many things to appreciate in my life! I currently have a healthy, functioning body that allows me to play in the endless mountains right out my front door. I have had times though, where I didn’t feel so free. Just like many other athletes, I have racked up my injury list. Before I turned 22 I broke my knee, separated my right shoulder, dislocated and broke my left shoulder, broke my back in 4 places, broke my elbow, broke and separated my sternum. When you get injured it’s hard to be positive but I have to admit, each one has been a blessing. I have come out of every injury more motivated, appreciative, and prepared then ever before! Despite all these challenges I was still able to compete, get photos published and land myself 10 ski sponsorships in only 3 years.

See the positive possibilities. Redirect the substantial energy of your frustration and turn it into positive, effective, unstoppable determination.” – Ralph Marston

I like to hike a lot
1. its beautiful
2. it helps me stay in shape!
It’s also a great way for me to spend time with my friends and my dog Baker. I grew up hiking/backpaking/exploring with my family in the Pacific North West but in the last couple years I’ve had a blast exploring new summits in South America, Switzerland, and Utah. My favorite hikes near my house include Superior, Devils Castle Ridge line, The Salt Lake Twins, Lone Peak, Baldy, Timpanogos, Olympus and many more. By the way, every song on Salt Lake City’s U 92.5 mentions putting your hands in the air. So here I am, claiming it….

Superior, free soloing the South Ridge

Olympus, free soloing the West Slabs

Baldy, Utah

El Colorado, Chile

Timpanogos, Utah

Lone Peak, Utah with Baker!

Bariloche Argentina

Laxx, Switzerland

Mt. Shuksin, WA

Superior, Utah
